Intermediate Obedience

Intermediate Obedience builds on the concepts taught in basic obedience and a thorough understanding of the verbal marker system, luring, as well as the dog understanding the basic commands are prerequisite. These prerequisites are met by graduating our Basic Obedience course or through private instruction and independent work in these topics specific to our methods. Dogs that require frequent aversives for problem/unwanted behaviors should spend additional time in Basic Obedience. We will intensively work on focused heeling, Sit out of motion, down out of motion, the long down, recall under distraction, the send-out and introduction to the jumps and formal retrieve. We will work in close proximity to other dogs and handlers and teach dogs to ignore these distractions while working. Handlers will learn to modify reward schedules and how to manage drive to intensify behavior. Play rewards will become more frequent and for many dogs will replace food based rewards in this course.
